Meet Camryn
Age 5- SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center
During a routine 20-week ultrasound, doctors discovered Camryn had
hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain), a shortened right ulna, and was missing her
right radius. Born four weeks premature at just 4 pounds 8 ounces, Camryn spent
a month in the NICU at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center where
doctors also discovered atrial and ventricular septal defects in her heart.
With her many complications, doctors feared Camryn may never walk, talk, or
see.
Camryn’s first three years were very tough and she underwent 12 different
surgeries to install shunts, fix heart defects, and attempt lifting her right
eyelid. Despite everything, Camryn now walks, talks, can see, and has an
extremely bubbly personality! Thanks to the wonderful care she received at
Cardinal Glennon, Camryn is now in a regular kindergarten class with no special
services.
